HOME The Unseen Hand

As  we walk through life many little incidents occur. How do we explain these mysteries?  Some say it is the rabbit foot in their pocket or call it a coincidence, but really it is "The Unseen Hand of the Lord" helping us.

God Watches

When driving with a friend to go visiting, her mind was so preoccupied with other things that she drove straight through the red light, realising this she glanced at me and went as red as a beetroot. Some time later a similar thing happened only this time she stopped right in the middle of the road when she realised the light was red, i was not too sure which was the reddest the light or her face and she really was upset about it. My friend is a very good and careful driver but unfortunately she had a very heavy problem on her mind at this time, we were very blessed as we had the unseen-hand of God with us keeping us safe.

Teaching To Drive

When i was teaching my grandson to drive there was one time that was hair-raising. My grandson always drove very close to the left hand side of the road and this particular day we had to go around a sharp bend where the road at the side fell into a deep ditch. My grandson went around so close to the edge that after he straightened the wheel i started to breath again and said to him, "Do you realise God held His hand out so your wheel would not drop over the side?" My grandson's answer was, "Who needs horror movies just learn to drive." But i still say that God held His hand out as an extension of the road. God is good all the time, all the time God is good.

This segment of Unseen Hands is dedicated to my wonderful parents, for without their love and their prayers over my life i would not be here to write them and to my precious brothers and sisters who helped to make my life interesting.

Caught By The Police

When i was a baby, one of my brothers used to take me everywhere with him, so that is why at six weeks old i was in trouble with the law. There was an orange grove not too far from where we lived and all the kids of the neighborhood would go from time to time and pick and eat the oranges. One such time when my brothers and sisters [and me] were picking the oranges the local police car rolled up, well kids flew down out of those trees and disappeared out of sight, unfortunately i was left behind in the rush.

As the policeman was about to climb back into his car he heard a baby cry, walking back to where the crying came from, he bent down and picked me up and took me back to my mother. [In those days the local police sergeant knew who all the kids belonged too, things were different then, to what they are today.]

When my mother appeared at the front door the sergeant said to mum, "Is this your baby?" my mother acknowledged i was and as she was taking me from the policeman he smiled at mum and said, "You know if we find her lurking around the orange grove again we will have to arrest her?" Honestly six weeks old and in trouble with the law, thank goodness God was watching over my life.

Sisters?

When i just started to crawl my mum was very ill and taken to hospital dad asked the two eldest girls to look after me while he was away. Well these two sisters have only a year difference between them and were still coming to grips with each other so when the older one told the younger one to look after me, as i was laying on a rug on the verandah, as she had something else to do for dad the younger one was not going to be told what to do so she went about doing her own thing. Unfortunately i crawled off the verandah and landed on a piece of wood with a nail in it and it went into my head. My crying brought both of my sisters running, oh what a panic, fortunately my dad came home and rescued me. Thank God for my parents and their belief in Him.

The Tall Tree

As a young child i loved climbing trees and on our land we had a well that was so deep no one knew the depth of it and my father always had it covered with a wooden lid for the safety of us kids. The tree i most favoured was growing near that well, it was a tall tree with lots of branches which made it easy to climb right up to the top. Once up there i would rock from side to side till i had the tree swinging with quite a lot of gusto, then i would put one hand up to my forehead and call out "Land HO". To me i was no longer up a tree but the mast of some ancient pirate ship in a storm watching for land. Unfortunately my mother lived in horror that i would loose my grip and come crashing down and into the well. God's hand was upon me, He always kept me safe.

The Poinciana Tree

In our backyard when i was young, we had a Poinciana tree it was not real high but more short and wide with long branches that stretched out. This is where dad had his axe and block for chopping wood for the fire. This tree to me was the circus tent and i was the tight rope walker, i would climb the tree and walk along the branch one foot over the other with hands outstretched just like a real tight rope walker in the circus. One day i slipped and fell my right foot came in contact with the axe as i landed on the ground. To my surprise as well as everyone else was that although my toes were just hanging there that i did not loose them altogether. But you see God knew my love of trees and was watching over me, i still have all five toes on my right foot today.

The Bus

One time when i was driving the bus for the disabled, we made a supper stop at McDonalds. At the back of the bus was a huge heavy lift, which one had to lower the bottom half down to the ground and the top half of the lift, which was the back window had to be hoisted upward on hydraulics. As i pushed up the top half of the lift, which was the heavy back window i was standing on the bottom part of the lift, when i bent down to push the button to lower the bottom half, when the top half came crashing down as the hydraulics did not hold. Had i not bent down at that moment the lift would have smashed into my head possibly killing me. But the unseen hand of God was there to save me.
